The Principality of Andorra is the sixth smallest nation in Europe. It is bordered by Spain and France and its capital city, Andorra la Vella, is the highest capital city in Europe. The country's official language is Catalan but other languages are commonly spoken as well such as Spanish, Portuguese and French. As of 2012, the Andorran population is at 85,082 and most of the population lives in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes.
The government of Andorra mandated that all children aged 6 to 16 are to be educated and the country has a 100% literacy rate. There are three school systems - Andorran, French, and Spanish - wherein the parents can choose which system they want their children to attend. In 1997, the Universitat d'Andorra (UdA) was established offering first-level degrees in Nursing, Computer Science, Business Administration and Educational Sciences, in addition to higher professional education courses. There are two graduate schools in the country, the Nursing School and the School of Computer Science. The latter also offers a PhD. program. read less
