Immerse yourself into the local communities by studying at the Arcadia University Mallorca, and participating in a homestay experience this summer! Located in Palma de Mallorca, the capital city of Mallorca, one of the most beautiful islands of the Mediterranean, the University facilities are conveniently situated in the downtown area. Students attending this exciting program stay with local families with wide experience hosting American students.
Students at the Arcadia University Mallorca program are required to take 6 credits: three in Spanish language and three in an elective course of their choice. Students take a placement exam in order to determine their level of Spanish, and Spanish language is available at four levels from beginner to advanced.
The four available elective courses are:
* Current Topics in Spanish Society (taught in English): The course centers on the role of Spain in the European Union and current topics with regard to Spanish institutions, economy, and culture.
* Spanish Cultural Encounters (taught in Spanish): includes a survey of modern Spain's most relevant cultural and societal aspects, such as cinema, theater, and music.
* Spanish Business Writing (taught in Spanish): This course focuses on developing reading and writing ability for professional / business documents.
* Survey of Contemporary Spanish Literature (taught in Spanish): focuses on recent and current literature trends in Spain.
The program also includes excursions to a vineyard and winery, a traditional Majorcan farm, a guided tour of the historic center and Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca, and a visit to "Sa Dragonera," or "island of the lizards," a biosphere/natural park.
