One of the Latin American countries with the highest literacy rate is Argentina. A number of private, national, and provincial universities constitute the country’s education system, which has developed significantly in the past few years. Higher education institutions in Argentina welcome hundreds of thousands of students each year, and it is the 12th most popular study abroad destination among 25 countries in 2008/09 as reported by the Institute of International Education. International students are offered a variety of degree programs and majors. In total, Argentina has 38 public universities and numerous private institutions. The best and most famous public ones include schools such as the Universidad de Buenos Aires which is the largest and most-respected, the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, and the National Technological University.
