The Summer Spanish Program is based in Cuenca, Ecuador, a city of nearly 300,000 people. Nourished by four main rivers, Cuenca sits in a valley at 8,400 feet above sea level and enjoys spring-like temperatures year round. In addition to formal, classroom study in Cuenca, the Program includes several field trips. In Ecuador, students will travel to Quito and the Andean highlands, and those who opt for the 10-week program have the option of visiting the Ecuadorian rainforest and, in Peru, visit Cusco, the oldest continually-inhabited city in the New World and Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas.
Augustana and CEDEI offer a 10-week program at all levels of Spanish as well as a 5-week intensive session for students who have completed a minimum of 1 course of Advanced level work at their home universities. Advanced students can opt for the 10 week program or the 5-week intensive program. The intensive program will offer 1 course in Latin American Culture and 1 in Literature. Students can opt to enroll for 1 or both (3 or 6 credits). Students at all levels can also sign up for the 10 week option which provides a richer immersion experience and more extensive travel throughout Ecuador and Peru.
