The Republic of Bangladesh is located in South Asia with the Bay of Bengal to its south, India to the north, west and east and Burma to the southeast. The country has one of the highest population densities in the world and ranks at number eight for the world's most populous country. The capital city is Dhaka which is considered a megacity and one of the South Asia's major cities with an estimated population of over 12 million as of 2008 ranking it as the largest city in Bangladesh and 9th largest city in the world. The official language is Bangla and English is the secondary language.
The Bangladesh educational system is comprised of a 5-year primary education, 7-years secondary education with 3 years junior secondary, 2 years secondary and 2 years higher secondary. Tertiary education is at 3-5 years. There are 34 public, 64 private universities as well as affiliated colleges all supervised by the University Grants Commission. There are three types of universities in the countries: public, private and international university. There are two international universities in the country. Universities include the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Islamic University of Technology, Rajshahi University, Chittagong University, Jahangirnagar University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, North South University, AMerican International University-Bangladesh, BRAC University, Ahsanullah University of Schience and Trchnology, Khulna University, etc.
