Designed for graduates, professionals, and serious undergraduates, it offers a unique curriculum unlike any other on the Chinese mainland. The program is based at CET's center at Yunnan University, which houses the C.V. Starr-Middlebury School in Kunming throughout the academic year.
The curriculum focuses on efficient language acquisition. Grammar and drill classes emphasize general competence in the four basic skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Small group classes offer students the chance to focus on specific areas of linguistic interest such as law, newspaper, literature or history.
Activities and trips encourage students to venture "out the door" and practice their Chinese skills in daily life. Each week, staff arranges excursions to places that would normally be difficult for students to visit on their own. For example, students might visit a local business or tour a small village outside of Kunming.
Students live in double rooms with Chinese students recruited by CET. Rooms have private bathrooms and come equipped with air conditioning, phone lines and highspeed internet connections. Less

On top of that, there is a language pledge so you are only allowed to speak Chinese unless it's an emergency. The program is hard academically, but definitely worth it and th... Read more
