The Communication, New Media, and Journalism program at the CIEE Study Center in Seville, Spain enhances students' knowledge of contemporary media culture and production from a national and global perspective. The program aims to develop tools for an immersion process using work in the program as the main asset, most particularly in the case of the two hands-on core courses offered. The shared nature of the many projects that students develop fosters their capacity to perform in a team as well as to tune their efficiency in a close-to-professional environment.
Academic Program
This program is designed for students considering a career in any communication environment. Students take courses in these disciplines through CIEE and with Spanish students at the Universidad de Sevilla. Students may also register for CIEE classes offered through the Liberal Arts Program. Students gain valuable hands-on experience in a multifaceted academic and professional environment. CIEE guarantees the social and cultural immersion of participants in the host society via specialized projects and extra-curricular activities.
Academic Culture
Courses meet two to three times a week and classes are scheduled every day, Monday through Friday. Instruction is usually lecture style. Final exams take place in January for the fall semester and June for the spring semester. In some cases professors may be willing to administer the final exam earlier (before Christmas in the fall and end of May in the spring) but CIEE is not responsible for arranging or guaranteeing early exams. At the end of the fall semester, academic year students have a break for the late December and early January holidays. Students who are enrolled in University classes must be back in Seville by January 6 to continue their classes and take their final exams. Students who choose to take the advanced literature class (LITT 3501 CSCS) during the spring semester Intensive Session must be back in Seville by the third week of January.
All other academic year students return the first week of February. During the fall, there is no extended vacation period. During the spring, two vacation periods take place at the University: Semana Santa and Feria de Abril. While extracurricular activities and personal travel contribute to the student's experience, attendance in class is mandatory. Early departure for or late return from vacations is not allowed. Less
