CISabroad - Intern in Barcelona Incredible Summer in Barcelona

    Reviewed by jjaltaras on .

Overall had an incredible summer abroad. Pretty hard to have a bad time overseas if you're openminded and willing to be exposed to and try all sorts of new things. My internship was great (a new social networking site) because my boss was very flexible about work time which made traveling on weekends a lot easier. Barcelona is definitely one of the coolest cities in the world and has so much to offer from art and museums to some of the craziest nightlife in the world and a great coast of beaches. Absolutely recommend this program.

Barcelona is a great city and being able to live there for 2 months was a great experience. They were a few setbacks and that was mainly because I had too many expectations but as soon as I let those go I had a really good time.

The program looks really good on paper - pick an internship in any field in select countries, get work experience, cultural experience, and life experience all in one trip. But it's a new program and it needs a little help as it continues to grow. There was a lot of miscommunication regarding my application - wrong program, wrong housing placement, missing internship placement, etc. Administration was always really helpful in solving the problems when they arose, but there was always a problem. When I got to the actual internship, I did not have a placement until my second week. Once I was placed, it was not in my field or pertinent to the research that I had planned to do during my internship. Once administration was aware of this, they were really helpful in trying to get me better work and helping me to complete my research. I was offered benefits and tickets to shows to make up for my dissatisfaction - it was really nice of them. They clean up their problems very well, but they haven't mastered avoiding the problems entirely.

CISabroad - Intern in Barcelona Invaluable experience for your first time abroad.

For my first time abroad, it was important for me to feel independent, but not all alone in a foreign country. CISAbroad was a good option to help integrate you in the culture, meet other interns, and still have plenty of space to explore and discover the country, as well as yourself.

CIS Abroad can get you the internship of your dreams! Every intern I spoke with (including myself) had an intern position with a company they loved to work for, in the field of their major. I recommend involving yourself in a culture that is very diverse from your own, for great adaptation experience. Make sure to sign up early in order to get a good apartment, with a convinient location; this will make our break your living experience!

I enjoyed the program. You could be as involved or uninvolved as you wanted. I had no problems, but from listening to other students, if there was an issue with the job, the staff would help quickly to find a new job for the student.

I highly encourage every student to do both a semester abroad and an internship during their studies as it gives you such a leg up on the competition post graduation. Why not do two at the same time? My summer in Barcelona was the best choice I ever made. I left with more confidence, career related skills, knowledge of a new language and culture, new friends, and even a permanent part-time job working for the company I interned with remotely from my home country.

I spent 4 weeks interning in Barcelona and had a great time. My apartment was very conveniently located, the program offered lots of activities, and my internship program was relevant to my major. All the staff I talked to were helpful, friendly, and supportive. I liked this program and would recommend it.

Attempting to learn a new country and their customs while working in a new environment was difficult. A great learning experience and maturation process took place in my time abroad and I am grateful for the experience.

CISabroad - Intern in Barcelona Mediocre

Reviewed by Sarah ANn Showell on .

While I thoroughly enjoyed my entire summer and the independent nature of the program, I feel some staff are highly educated and attentive at times while others were more culturally unaware then desired. I feel there should be more thorough questionnaire about living, and for CIS being one of the more expensive programs out there, a higher percentage of the total package should go to the apartment rental. Also, I felt the interview process could have been done in multiple rounds if possible to narrow down options, instead of being informed briefly before arrival.

One of the perks of studying abroad in Barcelona is having the beach so close! The beach is easy to get to by metro or bus no matter were you are in the city , is always booming with people, music and nearby restaurants. I will miss the beaches of Barcelona and always remember how much fun I had there, they were a big part of my summer experience.

I had an incredible experience interning abroad in Barcelona. I learned important skills, such as flexibility and independence, both in life and in the workplace. The program offered the perfect balance of freedom and structure. I stayed in a homestay and would recommend this for immersion purposes. My house mom, like many others, didn't speak English, which provided a stress-free opportunity to practice my Spanish daily. Barcelona is a truly incredible city and getting to know it has been one of the best experiences of my life.
