CIS London Program

The CIS semester study abroad program was a deal.

PROS: It is the cheapest program out there, and it does get you over to London, so if that's what you want go for it! The price is the real deal. The staff are very knowledgeable and super nice when preparing you to leave the country. They will answer as many questions as you have.

CONS: CIS is a price player, which means that they cut out the frills and extras. There are 2 day trips that come with the program, but that's it. While most other companies give out multiple day trips, overnight trips, and program bonding dates, CIS does not. It's not to say that's bad, if you want to come to London and do your own thing, bully for you, but for the people who want to get to know others in their program, then it's a bit bad.

Overall I would recommend CIS to people for the price, but put in a caveat that if they want to have more group day trips and overnight trips to splurge the extra money for another program.

    Academics

The classes were alright material wise, but they only have 3 hour modules.

  • A-
    Program Administration

The people at CIS were fantastic when I was coming over to London, but the service while in London fell off a bit.

  • A-
    Living Situation

    Very nice location in Shoreditch.

  • B-
    Cultural Immersion

They put you in a dorm with British people, but many of the students only stick with the Americans. There were only 2 day trips, which most of the time was spent in the coach.

  • A-
    Safety

Fairly safe, although I got my blackberry stolen.

  • B-
    Social Life

People are nice. I have friends, although I wish CIS would spend a bit more time and money in making us feel like a cohesive group. All the other programs do more trips, and create a better group feeling, which leads to more friends.

  • City Life

Explore the tiny cafes. They are all over the town and most have a great atmosphere. My favourite one is ScooterWorks by Waterloo.

Studying abroad was fantastic. The housing was shitty but the classes were invigorating. Met great people and some assholes. Only dealt with the program when we went on the day trips, which was was like twice the whole time.

This has by far been the best few months of my life. It has been wild, but i have learned a ton. London is the best study abroad program that I have heard about. You spend the most time here than any other program. You may think that its too long, but its never long enough. It goes by way too fast. The people are amazing and you learn about others as well as yourself. I wish that everyone could of had this amazing experience. I strongly encourage anyone to do this if they have the change. Best time of my life. You only live once, so why not come to London?

Studying abroad in London was by far the greatest experience of my life. It is an amazing city with so much to do. Not only do you get to take classes and learn things from a new perspective, but you get to see the culture of the U.K. and explore the city of London. I have met so many people from all over the world in my classes and around the city. Traveling around Europe throughout the semester was also a highlight. I got to travel to so many countries and I never thought I would ever get to do that. This experience is one that I will never forget and I am so happy I decided to study in London. I advise anyone to do so in the future. You will not regret it!

I do not recommend this program. They were disorganized, not helpful, and lacked communicating with the students. I did not feel that I had someone to turn to while abroad if I had a problem or question. We were told we would do both walking tours and 2 weekend excursions included in the cost of the program, and the weekend trips were cancelled without notice and replaced with other, FREE, walking tours. Very disappointed in this program.
