Summer in the British Isles is perfect for first-time international travelers; culture, literature, and film buffs; and anyone who wants to earn almost a semester of credits while exploring historic locations. With this study-travel course, you'll receive 9 credits while visiting incredible settings. Get excited about:
* True British experience at a local university - For 3 of the 5 weeks, you'll live with local British students in the residence halls and take classes in a small, medieval university town. It's an authentic taste of English culture.
* Explore all the amazing sites in London - From Big Ben to the London Eye, you can't miss the vibrant capital of England on your trip to the UK. Take a course here during week 4 and really experience this diverse city with your professor and classmates.
* Travel throughout Ireland - On week 5, the study-travel portion of the trip, you'll see tons of locations around Ireland. You will learn as you go to various famous Irish sites such as the Blarney Stone, Dublin, Galway, and more.
* Earn 9 credits in 5 weeks - What better way to earn credits toward graduation than from local and international professors in tremendous destinations?
* Take fun courses on the UK - You'll be more than a tourist. With classes in literature, film, international studies, history, and culture, you'll be studying fascinating aspects of modern Britain in a hands-on learning environment.
* Can't do the whole 5 weeks? You can still come! - Although the 5-week program is the best way to really see the UK, you can also do just the England portion, for 3 or 4 weeks, if that's all your summer schedule permits. Less
I really liked the program and the classes, but I felt like we weren't really in London. I wish we had been closer to the city so that we could have experienced more things. Getting into the city took time, and I feel like I didn't have enough time to do everything I wanted to do. Read more
I felt treated like a child most of the time. Our excursions often felt like high school field trips, with chaperones and rules and long bus rides. The Irish and Scottish tour guides we had were great. They were what made the experience meaningful, in my opinion. If you are a very independent, mature person with great leadership and social qualities, I would NOT recommend Summer in the British Isles. If you like people telling you what do to, wh... Read more
My experience with CISAbroad was mixed. In the Ireland portion of the trip, I learned a lot and the people that traveled with us were amazing. The excursions were useful and fun and I loved my experience there. In Scotland the accommodations were nice and the excursions were fun, but the guide was awful. I learned nothing from her. In London, were it not for our own trips and outings, I would have been very upset. Many excursions were disappointi... Read more
The Summer in the British Isles program offered a fair balance of travel (in the first two weeks in Ireland and Scotland), touring and learning. I found that the tours and tour guides provided us with the most valuable information and learning experiences, and although the tour buses were tedious, they provided a great site-seeing opportunity. I had an amazing time studying abroad and met a lot of really great people. I saw things that most people will not get to see in their lifetime like the Cliffs of Moher, Giant's Causeway, the Highlands, Windsor Palace, the Royal Family, Stone Henge, and Oxford. There were a lot of times, however, I questioned how exactly my money was being spent by CIS. Many of the other people on the trip with me requested detailed receipts, but never got one... Read more
"It's all apart of the experience" was literally our motto for this trip. It was our motto when things were going bad, and sometimes even when things were going good. It really was an experience, some parts good and some bad. I wouldn't trade what I learned here for the world. I might not have learned as much academically as I would've liked to, but I learned a lot of other things Read more
This was a great experience, and I have met some truly amazing people. However, there were a lot of problems a long the way. CIS was very unorganized throughout Scotland and London. Ireland was amazing and I wouldnt change a thing, except skip Belfast. Read more
This is an amazing program if you want to do a ton in a short time. Scotland was the highlight but the London segment was incredible as well. Read more
