Dartmouth in Berlin

Berlin is a great city and the opportunity to experience German culture and language exposure was incredible. The classes were a lot of busy work but overall a great time.

    Definitely one of the BEST!

Berlin is simply an awesome city in the center of Europe. Professor Bruce Duncan is an awesome resource. Some families were not all that exciting but everything else really paid off.

Dartmouth FS Berlin, Germany enough free time to explore this great city

My family was awesome and so is Berlin! Going to the theatre and learning German history from actual German professors was awesome. There was also enough free time to explore Berlin by myself, which really improved and my experiences and language skills.

This is a great program for motivated high school students/recent high school graduates to go to Germany, and the scholarship makes it free!

AFS is a volunteer-run and sometimes the organization is a little lacking, but it's a good program. We had welcome, half-way, and end-of-stay camps so we got to see more of Germany. We all lived with German host families and went to German high schools.

Dartmouth FS Berlin, Germany My Summer in Berlin - A Multi-Kulti Whirlwind Experience

I traveled to Berlin to Berlin with some expectations of how my life abroad would be. I had lived in Germany for a semester before, but living in Berlin was completely unlike my experience in a smaller German city - in the best way possible. The German department at Dartmouth is wonderful and my professor, a native of Frankfurt, was enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable about Berlin life - even, surprisingly, what college students typically did. It was a Dartmouth-only program, so I and the other students explored much of the city together, but there was a lot of downtime to go to outdoor concerts, museums, nightclubs, and soccer games while still keeping up with schoolwork. Everyone received a generous amount of spending money, and the program did a great job of exposing us to the more sophisticated aspects of Berlin while allowing us time to experience the informal and fun parts, like meeting other German students and going to inner parties with our host parents, who were all wonderful and caring in spending their summer helping us navigate German life. Berlin is a fantastic, diverse, CHEAP place to live that is very rich with its history and I wouldn't have spent my summer anywhere else.

Host family experience was fantastic. Enjoyed that classes incorporated what the city has to offer - going to museums, various landmarks, etc. Great way to learn the language if you're committed to not speaking English, but it can be hard to get to know locals unless you have lost siblings your age.
