If you dig going to museums, looking at ancient rocks, non-stop travel, and the phrases "it's all greek to me" and "when in rome", then this is the program for you.

I adored the group and felt that the opportunity to visit so many sites in so many countries was beneficial to my understanding of the Classical world and of the modern world. However, I wish that we had spent more time in secure hostels, with washers, dryers, kitchens, wish that there had been more, deeper cultural exposure, and that the program were better administered. All of these complaints could change in the future, depending on the leader of the trip, and the changes made to it.

We never stopped for lunch. We didn't get to speak enough Turkish. But we saw awesome amount of places and archaeological sites, etc.

Amazing program--fascinating sites, people, food, random adventures. Definitely a whirlwind trip, but worth it.

Regarding the above categories, some clarification is in order, the primary point being that this trip is what you make of it. You can party or stay in your room (or stay in your room while partying). You can talk to locals or do homework (or both). You can read a dozen novels if you want (I did this). You can complain about the size of a shower but know that, within the next 48 hours, you will probably be in a different city.
From that standpoint, the best quality of this trip is its endless variety. What other program offers: several countries, numerous cities, wide-ranging food, and diversity of things to see on a daily basis? This program brought to life for me a world I had encountered only on the page. I also enjoyed the fact that this program culls students and faculty from one (high-quality) institution, ensuring that the nature of the experience is enhanced by the sharpness, curiousness, and humor of the participants. -

If you consider Davidson students and faculty to be the salt of the Earth, enjoy reading from dead Greeks more than speaking to living ones, and enjoy playing in ancient ruins...then my friend, this is your Elysium fields. One friend told me that studying abroad was "stupid" because you only get four years with your college friends and why waste it with strangers in a foreign country. I agreed, decided to screw "cultural immersion," and hang out with a bunch of Davidson losers that I'd still love to wrestle in the most Greek homo-erotic way possible -- which is covered in olive oil.
Since this may be the most Davidson-centric program offered, it's bound to vary from trip to trip. The people who traveled before me, told stories about constant Italiano clubbing and Davidcestuous relationships. I think we went out once, and the most intense physical relationship I knew about peaked with a drunken back rub. I was told stories about being force-fed a diet of cigarettes and coffee from a never-stopping Dr. Toumazou. We were led around by Dr. Krentz, who kept a reasonable schedule and who enjoyed eating 3 meals a day at a cow's cow's pace. My only advice is to know your travel mates. Or don't.
Actually, the only real advice I can pass on is that if you don't get accepted, go speak to the teachers immediately. Tell them how you love all things Classical. That you'll do anything to go, even if it means going on another Classics program. And don't worry, you don't have to mean it. Just go so that if someone drops (and someone has the last two trips -- THANK YOU PARENTS WHO SPOOKED BY TERRORISTS!), you're the little Rudy on the sidelines, waiting for your big break. My GPA certainly didn't compare with my peers, but eagerness beats ignorance! STRENGTH AND HONOR! -

Overall a pretty challenging semester. A very GOGOGO (Yalla yalla!) atmosphere, with lots to see and do, it had the pace of what felt like a 2 week trip, but continued on over 4 months. However, it is an opportunity that is unrivaled in its overall scope. 70+ museums, every known ancient wonder of the world, 4 countries on 3 continents? Totally amazing, but certainly not a breeze, mentally or physically. By far my lowest GPA semester at Davidson, but totally worth every minute of it.
