The core course, Humanitarian Law and Armed Forces, combined with its study tours to Kosovo or Bosnia will provide you with a thorough understanding of the legal aspects and political context behind major human rights violations in Europe. This program is an examination of war crimes, human rights violations and European responses to these in an institutional and political context. In addition, the course examines the civil wars of former Yugoslavia and Kosovo in the 1990s as a case study, analyzing the practical solutions to ethnic conflict in the Balkans. The study tours, which are faculty-led and included in the DIS tuition, form an integral part of the core course. In Denmark, students will visit Danish UN peacekeeping forces and troops preparing for service, or having already been, in Afghanistan. Less
