Great for people who are interested in health (medical Spanish and clinical observation are great classes). Santiago isn't the most beautiful city, but outside of the city it is truly amazing. All in all a great program.

I thought the IES family in Santiago was great. The small program size (approx. 20-25) allows you to get to know not only all of the kids in your program but allows you to become friends with the staff/administrators, who are all super cool and friendly. The city itself is a huge metropolitan area with plenty to do (eg. museums, cultural centers, bars, nightclubs, malls and cafes). The workload was a lot less than my home university, which allowed for plenty of time to explore the city as well as travel up and down Chile. The staff are really helpful in planning trips and giving advice about things to see and places to visit. Overall, great city and program. I wish I had the chance to do a full year.

IES Abroad Santiago - Health Studies January Term Santiago: Best City in South America

IES's program in Santiago is incredibly well organized and provides a great glimpse into Chilean culture. They have a variety of classes offered at their own center as well as access to La Universidad de Chile and La Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, both of which are the top universities in Chile. I also took part in the Health Studies program (Clinical Observation Internship combined with Medical Spanish), which also helped me to recognize my passion for medicine. In addition, Santiago is a great city: 6 million people, which is large enough, but not massive like Buenos Aires (12 million people). Chile has TONS of outdoor activities, which I took full advantage of. I was able to travel all over Chile and to Peru and Argentina. If you are looking for a Spanish-language study abroad experience, I HIGHLY recommend studying in Santiago, Chile.

The IES Santiago Program was very well run. The staff are great, and are always willing to help in anyway they can. The city is pretty easy to navigate, and really has everything you will need. While Santiago is not the most beautiful city, the rest of the country is fantastic. In addition to being breathtakingly beautiful, there are opportunities for every kind of outdoor sport possible (mountain biking, zip-lining, hiking, rafting, sandboarding etc.). I would highly recommend this program!
