The Universidad de Salamanca, nicknamed the "Oxford of the Spanish World," opened in 1218. Since then Salamanca has welcomed students from Spain and all parts of the world; it enrolls a resident student population of 32,000 and an additional 6,000 international students.
The combination of a large, famous university in a small, hospitable city makes Salamanca the ideal place to live and study Spanish language and culture.
As a language immersion program, the IES Abroad Salamanca Program curriculum focuses on improving your written and oral proficiency in Spanish. Both the language and area studies courses are designed to build your language skills. IES Abroad classes are held in university classrooms, and the faculty members who teach for IES Abroad hold regular university appointments.
Partner universities: Universidad de Salamanca and Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca. Less

My host family was so caring, fun and friendly. They were always willing to help me whenever I had a problem or needed some help on my Spanish gr... Read more
I will always remember my four months in Salamanca as one of the absolute best times of my life. The city itself, in my opinion, is perfect for study abroad. It is easily walkable and feels safe, is very "authentic" (meaning no one will try to speak to you in English), filled with culture, caters to the young because of the university, and has an excellent nightlife. The program was great as well. We could virtually do anything we wanted as f... Read more

IES Salamanca is absolutely a great experience. The classes are excellent and the professors really know what they're talking about. The nightlife is great; there are plenty of places to go and very good specials. I had an excellent experience with my hostmother. The cultural experience-- that was probably the #1 thing I got from studying abroad (besides complete immersion)-- is really rich and it introduces you to an entirely new and different w... Read more
