Dublin is a city located at the mouth of the River Liffey in Ireland. Dublin began as a Viking settlement which became an important city during the Norman rule. In 17th century, Dublin expanded and was Great Britain’s second largest city. Subsequently in 1922, the Republic of Ireland was established and declared Dublin its capital city. The city earned an Alpha global city rating from the GaWC and is ranked 29th best city by the Global Financial Centers Index. Tourist sites in Dublin include the Dublin Castle, the Spire of Dublin (Monument of Light), the Mansion House, Christ Church Cathedral, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Custom House, and the Poolberg Towers. Dublin also boasts lush greenery and parks such as the St. Stephen’s Garden, Phoenix Park, Herbert Park, and St. Anne’s Park.

The primary center of Ireland, Dublin is home to three prestigious universities: The University of Dublin (also called Trinity College), the National University of Ireland, and the Dublin City University. Trinity College is the oldest university in the country built in the 16th century. Other important academic institutes include the Institute of European Affairs, Dublin Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology in Tallaght, Institute of Technology in Blanchardstown, the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design, and Technology, and the Economic and Social Research Institute.
