It is well known for its Japanese language and cultural immersion in Tokyo. The school, for the dedicated student, is a convergence of study abroad students, aspiring teachers, interns, and professors. KCP teachers are carefully evaluated for teaching effectiveness through active observation and a series of interviews.
With a student-teacher ratio of 11:1, KCP serves about 900 students per year. While most students are from other parts of Asia and all instruction is in Japanese, English-speaking staff provide extensive language support, including special tutorials, as the need arises for our U.S. students as they learn the Japanese language. KCP vastly exceeded my expectations on all levels. After taking the placement test, the teachers and staff spend a considerable amount of time talking with me to ensure that I would be placed in the appropriate level. The teachers were always very kind and patient both inside and outside the classroom. After class they would stay a few extra hours to help anyone with questions. Each teacher I had went out of his or her way to make sure that I und... Read more
Coming to KCP was the best choice I could have made for schools in Japan. The administration is very helpful, the teachers all care about the students and are always available to help, and the intensity of the classes helps you prepare to interact with Japanese people daily. Of course, you have to work hard. But, if you're willing to put in the effort, you will be rewarded with a life-changing experience. Read more
The staff are wonderful—very approachable. They are genuinely interested in the students' well-being and in how they are adjusting to living in a new country. Read more
Honestly, this trip was awesome. I learned a lot about Japanese culture—not only from the trip itself but also from seeing how KCP staff organized it, and how Japanese people coordinate with each other. I could see that Japanese people value their heritage and those who are interested
in it. Read more
The most valuable part of living in Japan was experiencing another culture. I compare everything I do now to how I lived there; it was very different.
I liked a lot of things about Japan—friendly people when I needed help, riding the train. I dread going back to driving again. The excellent trips were some of the best memories I have of Japan. The trip to Enoshima Island was the most eye-opening. I got to see a much deeper part of the cultur... Read more
I had a lot of fun hanging out with the other KCP students, listening to music, and just watching the world go by at coffee shops and eateries. All this provided insight into Japanese daily life instead of a tourism-centered experience. Read more
Hang out with your new foreign friends outside of class. Try to experience as much as you can of Japan; don’t worry too much about just studying, especially if you will only be here for a term or two. Read more
See the sites and use your newly learned Japanese. I would recommend traveling with your fellow classmates. That’s not only safer, but more fun. I've spent almost every weekend with my friends. Read more

Takatsu-sensei was by far the best kanji teacher: he draws all sorts of little pictures to help students remember the meanings of the kanji. His kanji
practice method is highly effective for me. Takatsu- sensei's pictures illustrated many important grammar points. Read more

Most productive was learning and using new grammar. When I didn't really understand very well, I was able to talk to Kato sensei and understand well.
The culture class helped me think about the differences in Japanese culture from American culture and it was very helpful to learn about it in a class before finding out in some embarrassing way on my own. Read more
Most interesting aspect is that students are from all over the world and we can only communicate in Japanese to understand each other. Living in Japan in itself is a great experience overall. Read more

The Kamakura trip with the culture class was the most satisfying. I think it was very satisfying because in the culture class we were able to learn a lot about the different places we were going to visit, and then when we went to those places they seemed a lot more interesting because we understood their purpose and why they were important.

I was astounded by the quality of all my teachers here at KCP. Kikuchi-sensei is great at explaining things or acting out scenarios to make them understandable.
Horikoshi-sensei is especially good at getting everybody involved and interested. Konno-sensei uses her good sense of humor to make learning and is especially skilled at drawing pictures for comprehension.

Moronaga-sensei gets top accolades from me. In terms of helpfulness, approachability, concern for student welfare and participation, and overall effectiveness at classroom management, she was unequivocally the very best there was.
