NSLI-Y gives high school students a great opportunity to learn a language through complete immersion. I studied in Russia, and by the end of the academic year program I was able to test out of 6 semesters of college Russian (I had no prior knowledge of Russian). Okay, despite that I went on NSLI-Y's Korea Program, the program actually sends people to several different countries. NSLI-Y is primarily a language learning program, and you could learn Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Persian (Tajik), Turkish, or Hindi. Programs last either for the summer or an academic year, and in most cases you are paired with a host family and go to language classes for 5 or so hours a day. Cultural enrichment activities ...
