A review on Smith in Puebla, Mexico

Life Changing
I am who I am today because I went to Puebla for my Junior Year. I can't begin to do justice in words to how much the experience meant to me. I came back from Mexico fluent in Spanish thanks to the total immersion of living with my host family and my attendance at the public university. The culture, the art, the food, the people...all provided more than anyone could ask for in an experience abroad. The program staff were incredibly supportive and knowledgeable, and if anything, the transition back to New England served up the most difficult bout of "culture shock." The only regret since getting back is that I haven't been able to return and visit as much as I'd like. I miss my host family and the beautiful city every day!

Academics
The only reason that I graded this a little less is that it takes a bit to adjust to the "Southern Hemisphere" way of doing things at the university...my professors were often late to class, or organized themselves very differently from my professors back home in MA, and it took a little to get used to. Though if anything, I learned to be much less up-tight and go more with the flow of things!

La Zanahoria - great vegetarian restaurant, with awesome "hamburguesas de avena" especially if you add mushrooms and cheese! La Zaranda - great coffee shop that makes the best mocha!! Any place around the Zocalo that sells freshly made paletas. The mango ones are incredible on a hot day!
