Studying Abroad should not just be a luxury. It should be a requirement. Back home I would get straight A's in Spanish but I never, ever, would speak Spanish outside the classroom. The time spent with my host family has been truly magical. I'll never forget singing karaoke with my host family. Or impressing them with my cooking. This trip was worth every penny. The host families are great and you really start to feel like its your home too. The directors are amazing and very knowledgeable. I am hoping to partake in another Sol Education trip abroad. I really love Whitewater rafting was my favorite. The river was high in the mountains and it was so breathtaking! I made numerous really close friend on the trip and plan to visit them when I get back to the states. SOL Costa Rica was my first study abroad experience, and it was everything I hoped it would be. In terms of learning Spanish, the teachers at the university were great. But the most important learning experience for me was the total language immersion with my homestay family, who spoke little to no English. I absolutely LOVED my experience with SOL Education Abroad! My family and roommates were great. The teachers were very helpful, however most of them don't speak English so it definitely pushes you to learn Spanish. The cultural experience was the best. Not only did we visit the most well-known places in Costa Rica on very organized excursions, but we also got to experience the culture of the country in the most authentic ways. I went to Granada, beautiful town in the heart of hot Andalucia! The school was strong, classes were everyday, very intensive courses in Spanish, from almost no spanish in the beginning I came to level of short conversations with locals at the end of the month.
