Kaapstad or Cape Town is the second largest city in South Africa after Johannesburg. The city today is among the most diverse cities in the world which reflects Cape Town’s role as top destination for expats and immigrants in South Africa. Demographics in Cape Town include 48.13% colored inhabitants (includes ancestries from Europe, Africa and Asia), 31 % Black Africans, 18.75 % Caucasians, and 1.43% Asians. Cape Town’s population is estimated to be 3.5 million as of 2007. Tourism is one of the major industries of the city. Well-known landscapes and must-see attractions include the Table Mountain, the City Bowl, Chapman’s Peak Drive, and Signal Hill.

Cape Town also boasts of a well-developed system of higher education comprising public universities. There are 3 main universities at Cape Town: The University of Cape Town, the University of the Western Cape, and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The Financial Times ranked University of Cape Town at top 60 in international rankings 2011. The city is also a popular study abroad destination, especially American students, as well as a hub for study abroad providers that offer internship, short-term, semester, and summer programs.
