The city of Oviedo is one of the most important centers of cultural activity in the northwest of Spain. With nearly 200,000 inhabitants it is also the capital of the 'Principado de Asturias', and the geographical, administrative, commercial, and cultural center of the region. The climate in Asturias is quite mild, except in the high mountains, and often rainy. The mountains and villages along the coast are ideal places to vacation. There are a number of ski resorts in the region. Oviedo has a very active cultural life with concerts, operas, conferences, congresses, museums, libraries, exhibitions, etc.
All students are expected to complete at lease 4 courses each semester. Students take a placement exam and are placed into either the intermedio level (upper division courses at the 300 or 3rd year level) or avanzado level (upper division courses at the 400 or 4th year level). Consult the SUNY New Paltz website for more details regarding courses and descriptions. Less
