Thai tradition and customs are still very much alive in this city and they happily co-exist with the newly modern Thailand. In 1800, a moat and huge brick walls were built around the city to protect it from invasion, but they now protect the old city from any high-rise development. The city is most famous for having more than 300 Buddhist temples, and one of the most holy, Wat Doi Suthep, sits atop the mountain that overlooks the city. Chiang Mai is rife with festivals and is definitely the handicraft capital of Thailand with beautiful woodwork, jewelry and ceramics. The city also has a vibrant nightlife with many excellent restaurants and a lively music scene.
Payap University's pleasant main campus features a leafy green environment with a mixture of modern and older buildings. A chapel forms the campus's centerpiece and blends Christian and Buddhist heritage with a spire and a roof in the shape of a giant lotus. Students enjoy the green space and convenient walkways that sprawl across campus.
The campus is located fifteen minutes from city center and Chiang Mai's famous Night Bazaar. Many affordable restaurants and bars surround campus and one of Chiang Mai's largest superstores is within walking distance.

When asked why I chose to study abroad, I would initially respond with a rather generic answer such as, “to broaden my horizons”, or “to see another part of the world”. Little did I know that I would in fact grow in so many ways. Through my semester in Thailand with TEAN, I was able to fully immerse myself in, what I have come to regard as one of the most breathtaking and heartbreaking parts of the world. I was humbled by an explosion of ... Read more
Great times in Thailand with a huge thanks to TEAN! I just got back from my semester abroad in Chiang Mai, Thailand at Payap University through The Education Abroad Network. TEAN took care of it's students and gave all of us the chance to get the most out of our experience abroad. Without a doubt, I recommend anyone interested to highly consider TEAN as your choice to go abroad. Make sure you go to their webpage, look through all their study abro... Read more
I had an absolutely amazing time during my summer study abroad in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was transformative, I not only got to spend time in another country, but I felt like I was immersed in that country's culture through dorm life. We went on an excursion to the border of Myanmar that taught me so much about the region and expanded my views on a lot of things. I have no complaints about my experience and had a ton of fun! This program is still an infant, as it just began about a year ago. However, there are only minor changes that we have been told will be made. Overall, this program was fantastic and I loved every minute of it. Read more
