Berkeley Summer Sessions offers exciting Travel Study programs that give you the chance to combine international travel with academic achievement. Courses are taught by regular rank UC Berkeley faculty, faculty of host institutions, and UC Berkeley graduate student instructors.
Develop your ability to communicate in written and spoken French and enjoy a comprehensive introduction to French history and culture, from the Romans to the present. Numerous field trips are integrated into the courses, including a boat tour of Paris along the river Seine, and two all-day excursions outside Paris: to impressionist painter Claude Monets house in Giverny, and to the Palace of Versailles. Other destinations within Paris include the Conciergerie palace and prison, the Garnier Opera House, the Orsay Museum, the Pasteur Institute, and more. You will also see a live performance of Eugène Ionescos La Cantatrice chauve, the play you will study in your language and conversation courses. This program is open to students of French at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced-intermediate levels.
